Vista Ridge Academy
Erie, Colorado

Date: 2003 (new) / 2007 (addition)
Cost: $4,000,000
Area: 54,000 GSF

In 2002, SBEC was selected by Slaterpaull Architects to provide mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the new Vista Ridge Academy (VRA) located in Erie, Colorado. VRA is a private K-12 Christian school located north of Denver. Spaces include classrooms, administrative support spaces, kitchen / dining, gymnasium, locker rooms with showers and library.

In 2007, due to rapid growth and stressed capacity, VRA constructed a small single-story addition to the classroom wing to provide additional spaces including classrooms, associated support spaces, and interior and exterior storage spaces. SBEC provided mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the addition as well, which included the expansion of the existing fire sprinkler system.

SBEC’s scope of work consisted of the following:

Gas-fired packaged rooftop units with DX cooling;
Central building exhaust systems;
Low-consumption plumbing fixtures;
Kitchen with grease hood;
Single-zone wet pipe fire sprinkler system;
Domestic hot water generated from a single gas-fired storage-type
water heater;
Dedicated exhaust fan to serve the science storage room;
Emergency shower/eye-wash assembly including floor drain for science room;
Acid-resistant floor drains, with acid-resistant traps and branch piping for science room;
Backflow preventer with bypass, flow and tamper switches;
Electric control system;
Intercom/master clock system;
277/480V main distribution center to serve the building; and
Pad mounted utility transformer.
