SBEC is the Mechanical Engineer of Record for this project which was designed to consolidate 9 different physical locations for the IBS program into a single facility. The new facility will house five research programs and four centers including a natural hazards center, population aging center, center
for the study and prevention of violence and the University population aging center.
Spaces include administrative offices, conference / meeting rooms, library, breakrooms, secure file storage, faculty lounges, kitchen, events / reception area, locker rooms / showers and data
analysis laboratories.
Design features include: one 55,000 cfm variable volume roof-mounted air handling unit; louvers mounted to two-sides of unit to accommodate architectural screening of roof equipment; Indirect/direct-evaporative cooling (no mechanical cooling); high efficiency gas-fired boilers to generate building heating water; convectors located around perimeter of building for heating; variable speed secondary heating water pumps; demand controlled ventilation to reduce energy consumption; direct digital control (DDC) automation system; and ultra-low-flow (1/8 gallon flush) urinals for water conservation.
