In 2003, SBEC was selected by the University of Denver and Andrews & Anderson to provide mechanical and electrical design services for this project, which renovated a multi-story university office/classroom building into a 21st century home for the Graduate School of Social Work. The project entailed the renovation of 33,000 GSF and a 15,000 GSF addition. Spaces included offices, library, café, catering kitchen, lobby, student lounge, “smart” classrooms, 170-seat assembly room, computer room and tech support rooms.
SBEC’s mechanical and electrical scope of work consisted of the following:
Six custom air handling units;
“Smart” classroom upgrades;
Individually controlled fan coil units;
Campus chilled water with variable speed pumping;
Two cast iron gas-fired hydronic boilers;
Ventilation air ducted in wainscot enclosures;
Building automation system (BAS), DDC controls;
Complete plumbing system replacement;
Automatic sprinkler system with backflow prevention;
New indoor lighting in classrooms, offices and assembly room;
New building power distribution;
Upgrade of existing fire alarm system;
Dynamic fire/smoke dampers;
Hydronic heat with glycol;
New building transformer;
New ADA notification;
New mechanical/fire alarm interface;
Expansion of building electrical service;
New 13.2kV primary feed;
Integrated A/V systems in conference rooms;
New main switchboard; and
Interface with voice/data and A/V systems.
