The Coolbaugh Hall project consisted of a 60,000 GSF renovation and
35,000 GSF addition to an existing multi-story university building
that was occupied during phased construction. The design of the facility
included research and teaching laboratories, temperature controlled
environment rooms, autoclave and glass wash rooms, instrumentation
and clean laboratories, grinding labs, a chemical storage facility,
auditorium, and computer center.
Some of the system features included: heating water shell and tube
heat exchanger from campus steam, 100% outside air supply with heat
reclaim, variable air volume (VAV) supply and exhaust, building automation
system (BAS) and DDC controls, RO/DI water plant with recirculation,
storage and 5,000 GPD generation, perchloric acid hood exhaust with
water washdown and a large atrium with separate air handling system
for smoke control.
