(CDPHE) Laboratories
Denver, Colorado
Date: 1997
Cost: $9,200,000
Area: 58,000 GSF
The existing facility housed CDPHE laboratory functions, including
chemistry, biology and toxicology laboratories and was served by four
100% outside air custom rooftop units with exhaust air heat reclaim.
The design included (2) 150 BHP heating water boilers and (1) 100
BHP medium-pressure steam boiler for process load, (2) 200-ton water-cooled
centrifugal chillers, high efficiency filtration, a Biosafety Level
3 (BSC-3) Suite with HEPA filtered exhaust, animal holding rooms, VAV
laboratory fume hood and room pressurization controls-volumetric offset
type, building automation system (BAS), laboratory gas distribution
systems, central RO/DI pure water system, an acid resistant waste system
with neutralization tank, a Chemical Storage Room with remote secondary
spill containment, full coverage fire sprinkler system with pre-action
zones in critical areas, and a centralized autoclave/glasswash room.
Air intake and exhaust locations were determined through wind tunnel
analysis.
