Addressing the need for functional research and support space, a three-story addition was designed to connect the existing Microbiology Building and provide additional square footage for research activities that include media/glassware preparation space, cold storage rooms, instrument rooms, and hazardous chemical rooms. The new addition includes 15 research laboratories, 33 offices and two environmental cold rooms.
SBEC’s scope of work consisted of the following:
Expansion of existing domestic hot water system to serve addition;
Steam-heated instantaneous non-potable hot water generator;
100% outside air HVAC system;
Constant volume manifolded chemical fume hood exhaust with redundant exhaust fans;
Dedicated isotope hood exhaust with filtration;
Addition utilized abandoned chiller room for new campus steam and District chilled water heating/cooling equipment;
Utilized central plant steam and chilled water services;
DDC controls with communication to central campus building automation system (BAS); and
Deionized water and vacuum power provided.
