The central plant upgrade and expansion at NJMRC included the replacement of “old” centrifugal chillers and absorption chiller and the installation of two new 750-ton chillers –1,500 tons with expansion to add 500 tons. New deaerator, feedwater pumps and controls were installed along with 500 BHP steam added to existing 1,500 BHP plant. Also included in the design was new utility piping tunnel, variable speed pumping, variable speed chillers, variable speed cooling tower fans, new campus building automation system upgrade, new 20,000 gallon fuel oil upgrade tank storage and piping replacement and the upgrade of increased plate capacity to the existing plate and frame heat exchanger.
